The nice people from Fuji Xerox‘s sent 2 printers to The Nerd Guide recently, namely, Fuji Xerox’s DocuPrint M265zDocuPrint CM225fw.

DocuPrint M265z on the left, is a multifunction (Print/Scan/Copy/Fax) monochrome Laser Printer, while DocuPrint CM225fw is a multifunction (Print/Scan/Copy/Fax) colour Laser Printer.

Laser printer was deemed to be high end and expensive in the past, and many users chose the cheaper InkJet printer previously. However, due to the way how the ink is printed on the paper, the ink tends to smudge and comes out unevenly in different shades! No more worrying about spilling water over the print outs and how the quality of the print outs. That is the key reason why The Nerd Guide stopped using home printer until recently when I got another laser printer.

The Nerd Guide realized that there is a decrease in the pricing for laser printer recently, where a simple colour Laser Printer cost at slightly over $200. For example, in the recent IT Fair, the DocuPrint M265z is selling at $419 with vouchers and trolley, while DocuPrint CM225fw is selling at $549 with vouchers and trolley.

What makes Fuji Xerox stands out from the rest? The setup, no doubt.

One of the biggest frustrations for home&office users of printers is the setting up of the printer, connection to the WiFi so that you can start printing immediately. The Nerd Guide manages to plug in the power, switch the printer on, and set up the connection with the WiFi within 5 minutes using the touchscreen panels on the printers. Yes, just 5 freaking minutes (As long you remember your WiFi password!)

After installing the driver on the computer, The Nerd Guide started exploring the printing/scanning/copying features of the printer.

Printing is pretty fast where DocuPrint M265z can print 30 A4 pages per minute while for CM225fw, it can print 18 pages per minute for both monochrome and coloured pages.

In the spirit of fun, The Nerd Guide took a pack of the wet towel from lunch and tried to do a copy of the item. Image looks realistic (very 3D!) except that it is a bit dull on the colours. It seems that the DocuPrint CM225fw printer adopts the Self-Scanning Light Emitting Diode (SLED) printer technology which was developed by Fuji Xerox themselves.

If you are looking at purchasing a printer right now, the Fuji Xerox’s DocuPrint M265zDocuPrint CM225fw would be 2 of your top choices.

Special Thanks to Fuji Xerox for the review
