The Institute of Play is a non-profit design studio founded in 2007 in New York City, and consists of a team of designers and learning practitioners. Their mission is to promote game design, games and gaming as a model tool to enhance personal and social development, in particular learning in secondary school students. With this mission, it is apparent that is has just begun to effect sweeping changes to the way education evolves.

With the rise in popularity in mobile devices and tablets, the demands of students have changed drastically over the years. A research had found out that 90% of college students surveyed think wi-fi is as essential to their education as a computer or classroom, and 60% of students wouldn’t attend a college if it didn’t offer free wi-fi.

Therefore, the Institute of Play teamed up with Samsung, together with their latest flagship tablet, the GALAXY Note 10.1, developed an innovative new way to enhance student learning experiences for the next generation of students, using interactivity and technology, as well as game-playing methods.

Samsung and the Institute of Play adapted Evoquest for the Galaxy Note 10.1.  In EvoQuest, students can choose genes to evolve creatures that adapt to a changing environment.  After which, the students in New York will then set off to an augmented reality search, where they will send the eggs found to help the students in Chicago to deepen the gene pool of the creatures in their game.

Take a look at the video below and find out more about Evoquest, and how the game helped in the education of the students.

In addition, you will be able to see how the students take advantages of some of the Galaxy Note 10.1’s features, such as the S-Pen, S-Note Productivity Tools and Quick Note. And not forgetting the split-screen technology feature, so the students are able to take notes while reading a website or watching a video.
